The Man who did not Quit

The man who did not quit

======================

Life is not easy for many people. Life consists of struggles,  defeats,  insults,  despair and fears. Many people quit trying when they face failures. Many people stop fighting when they face a defeat. Only a few people continue their courageous journey in the darkness. Only a few people dont quit their trying though they are facing failures continuously.  Only a few people can focus on their goals,  though problems,  difficulties,  lack of opportunities, lack of support and nightmares are disturbing them. These few people create a history in the passing of time. These few people become leaders to millions of people. Abraham Lincoln is one of those few people.

The greatest example of persistence is Abraham Lincoln. If you want to learn about somebody who didn’t quit, you should know about Abraham Lincoln.

Born into poverty, Lincoln was faced with defeat throughout his life. He lost eight elections, twice failed in business and suffered a nervous breakdown.

Let us see his journey of failures.

1816: His family was forced out of their home. He had to work to support them.

1818: His mother died.

1831:  He failed in business.

1832:  He tried and ran for state legislature – but he lost.

1832: He lost his job – he wanted to go to law school but couldn’t get in.

1833: He borrowed some money from a friend to begin a business and by the end of the year he was bankrupt. He spent the next 17 years of his life paying off this debt.

1835: He was engaged to be married. But his sweetheart died and his heart was broken.

1836: He had a total nervous breakdown and was in bed for six months.

1838: He tried to become the speaker of the state legislature – but he was defeated.

1840: He tried to become the elector – but  he was defeated.

1843: He tried for Congress – but he lost.

1848: Again he tried for re-election to Congress – but he lost.

1849: He tried for the job of land officer in his home state – but he was rejected.

1854: He ran for Senate of the United States – but he lost.

1856: He attempted the Vice-Presidential nomination at his party’s national convention – got less than 100 votes. He failed.

1858: He ran for U.S. Senate again – again he lost.

1860: Finally he was elected as the president of the United States of America. A grand success in his life.

Then he started changing the lives of people in America. Until 1860,  african americans were slaves in America. They used to be sold in streets. They did not have rights like white people had. For the first time in American history,  Abraham Lincoln gave equal rights to black people. Even today Abraham Lincoln is considered as the best president among all other presidents of America. He will be remembered forever in the world.

Abraham Lincoln's life was a continuous series of failures. He could have quit many times – but he didn’t quit.  And because he didn’t quit, he became one of the greatest presidents in the history of America.

Lincoln was a champion because he never quit. Success comes to those people who dont quit.
